Does this prevent you from living your life the way you want and is it stopping you from spending the time you would like with your family and friends?
I have observed with my clients whom have Chronic Fatigue that they often find similar challenges in day to day living. Just getting through each day feels like a marathon. It’s not only the constant exhaustion but the associated sleep problems (insomnia), brain fog and often bowel disorders. Life can become very frustrating when you are just trying to make it through each day and live a normal life. Often that memory of a normal life begins to fade into the past. What makes it more frustrating is that even though you are always tired, you most likely cannot sleep well either. You already know that without good quality deep sleep, the body cannot heal.
I have also seen, with many clients, an association between depression and anxiety that was caused or made worse by the Chronic Fatigue. In fact, most my clients came in originally for help with anxiety or to overcome their depression. Now, the beauty of working the way I do is that because we take a more holistic and integrated approach, you make improvements in many areas of life all at the same time. We don’t explore just one symptom - the fatigue and ignore everything else - but look at all of you.
Another challenge with living with Chronic Fatigue, is how you have most probably been trying really, really hard to cure the chronic fatigue. You have probably seen every specialist, doctor and alternative healer by now and tried many therapies and supplements - yet none have worked! The sad thing is you end up feeling like you have failed. Sometimes, clients come in to see me and they think they have to live the rest of their life with it. They have almost given up. Please don’t – not yet!
If you have been suffering for a long time, you may be skeptical that anything can help you. I don’t blame you. Until recently, it was not even considered a real condition by the medical profession. Some people think you are making it up and it’s just in your head. Most clients who come to me suffering from Chronic Fatigue are somewhat skeptical. I think this is healthy. I always say don’t judge me on your past experiences, or what I say, but on your results. I have a very different approach which seems to get very impressive results. I am not writing this from a perspective of someone who has ever gone through chronic fatigue. I am just someone who had a few clients who were referred to me from their friends thinking that I could help them. After a few sessions, the improvement in their life was profound to the point where I thought it would be best to share this with anyone else out there who needs it. My clients loved that what I did was different. I had an original way of looking at things and what I was saying was based on scientific principles of physiology, psychology, and neurology.
According to Jacob Teitelbaum MD, who published a study on the effective treatment of Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome acts as a “circuit breaker”. The hypothalamus decreases it's function to protect the individual in the face of what is perceived to be an overwhelming stress - just like blowing a fuse or circuit breaker in a house. This means that when under lots of stress, the way we adapt for our immediate short term survival can have negative consequences to our health. This explanation from Teitelbaum explains, in a nutshell, why I was getting such good results from my clients with chronic fatigue. My work is based upon resetting the stress response. If you will, the work that I was doing was resetting this circuit breaker. I realised that people with Chronic Fatigue would have life's day to day stresses re-trigger the response to short circuit over and over again. This was the reason why care with me was so powerful - I would teach their nervous system to become more resilient to life's stresses.
Often after a session with me, my clients tell me that they did not realise just how much tension they were actually holding onto. Holding onto tension consumes so much energy. And often we are holding onto tension all day and often even during our sleep! Building stress and tension in your body often starts gradually. It's like you're in a room watching TV at dusk and it slowly goes dark outside but you're so focused watching TV, you don’t notice that it's actually dark outside until someone comes into the room your sitting in and switches the light on. My Chronic Fatigue clients describe life to me like a dimmer switch has been on all the time. When working with them, we reset the switch. I asked a recent client to write a bit about her experience at Inspiring Wellness to give you a better idea from someone's point of view who has transformed her life. Enjoy the read.
Hi Dr Dov,
I've spent weeks trying to puzzle out the right words to convey the impact Inspiring Wellness, and you, has had on my life. And I'm still not sure I've got it, but I'll give it a go.
I've been a client of Inspiring Wellness for six months. Only six months. And in that time, my entire life has changed, for the better. Six months ago I was exhausted, stressed, tired, and 6 months after my initial diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. For those who don't know, this disorder affects EVERYTHING. The constant pain, exhaustion, mental fog, and baseline of illness, is deep and insidious. My entire world was grey. Exercise made things worse, and it was like being trapped. Trapped in a body made of concrete, trapped in a mind that wanted more, but couldn't see through the fog. I was desperate, when your ad popped up on my Facebook. I was willing to try anything, just for a shred of light.
And now? Six months on, I'm exercising (walked 15kms on Sunday - I still can't believe it!), I've lost 6.6kg in 6 weeks (6 seems to be a number for me today!). My world is full of colour, light, music, love. My relationship with my husband is 100% better, I'm succeeding beyond my immediate manager's expectations at work, and I feel GOOD - no, GREAT! I am open, free, and full of joy.
I can't express how grateful I am, how happy I am, and how positive I am about my life. I share my experience with everyone around me, because I believe that everyone deserves to feel this way. In fact, I'm sad that so many people DON'T feel this way. I just wish there were more ways to share the joy that you, and Inspiring Wellness, have given me.
I know I'll re-edit in my head later, think of things that I should have said, but in the end, it all means the same thing, really, doesn't it? You've changed my life, even saved my life (not in the literal sense, but in the sense of the life that I'm living), and I will be forever grateful.
Thank you so much, for everything. And I'll see you Tuesday (although I need to reschedule Thursday for during the day if possible)!
Please note: As with most health care, results can not be guaranteed, because what works really well for most people, will not work for everyone. However I will do the best I can to help you. If I can't, I will help find the right person for you.
Chronic fatigue will not go away over time, sleeping and resting will not help you - it hasn't helped you recover yet has it? My guess is that you wake up tired too. Drugs won’t work either, as stimulants will just place more stress on the body. In fact, there are not a lot of things that will help you. This is somewhat sad - but what is exciting for those of you who are truly open to making a change, is that help is available. Act differently today by making a decision to give Inspiring Wellness the chance to help you break free and tomorrow you will begin to feel brighter, you will have more energy and start to enjoy life more. Imagine being able to slowly increase your exercise-without being wiped out the next day! Imagine saying yes next time a friend asks you to join in on an adventure or going out. Imagine feeling healthy and vibrant and alive. It's your birthright. Do whatever you have to do to reclaim your life. It is worth it because it means getting your life back and feeling 10 times healthier.
I am happy to offer you a free 20 minute consultation where you can come in and meet me. We can explore how Chronic Fatigue has impacted your life and I can show you how I help clients make massive breakthroughs. It will also give me the chance to work with you to see if you will respond well to care before you even start. Obviously, what I do and how I help people is not a quick fix, magic bullet gimmick. If you have unrealistic expectations and think that someone can fix you in a couple of sessions, please don't waste your time coming in for the free consult. This is only for people who are genuinely interested in reclaiming their life and health.
